Fortunately, the team at C Spencer were up for the task and so impressed judges with their work on Humber Bridge that they have won an award.

The engineering contractor, based in Barrow-on-Humber in North East Lincolnshire, won the trophy for innovation at the Yorkshire And Humber Construction Best Practice Awards in Leeds.

The accolade was given to the company for its 6.5m project to prevent corrosion of the 11,000 tonnes of steel wire, which make up the main cables on the landmark structure. Family-owned C Spencer is now setting their sights on similar overseas projects, with a view to taking their knowledge and experience to America, Europe and potentially Asia.
