Siemens plans to hire 50 extra staff in Leeds
FIFTY jobs are expected to be created at Siemens Mechanical Drives in Leeds as part of its long term growth plans.
The company plans to carry out a £1m investment so it can service more rail components and assemble a new range of geared motors. The investment will enable Siemens, which employs around 55 staff in Leeds, to service a growing number of onshore and offshore wind turbines as well as rail motors, couplings, gearboxes and other components. The factory has service contracts of up to 30 years for rail component work. It will also be the UK base for a new range of geared motors called Simogear. Leeds Central Labour MP Hilary Benn, who formally opened the site in 2011, said: “It is great news that new jobs have been created at Siemens as a result of winning the train motor servicing contract.”
