Sir Stuart has green on the agenda

Leading retailer Sir Stuart Rose will discuss the role that business can play in protecting the environment at a major lecture at the University of York.

The former chairman of Marks & Spencer and newly appointed chairman of online grocer Ocado will deliver the Cantor Business Lecture. Sir Stuart has worked in retail for 40 years, starting at Marks & Spencer in 1972. He joined the Burton Group in 1989.

Following the group’s demerger in 1997, he became chief executive of Argos, then chief executive of Booker and Arcadia Group. He returned to Marks & Spencer in 2004 as chief executive, becoming chairman in 2008.

After standing down in 2011, he was appointed chairman of Blue Inc in June 2012. He will join Ocado in March as non-executive director, and take up the chairmanship in May.
