Sky is on the hunt for people who previously worked in technology but have taken a career break, whether that was for baby number two, a family bereavement, travelling or even redundancy.

The exciting Sky Leeds Returners Programme 2020 offers you the chance to get back into tech; to brush off the dust, build up your confidence and get up to speed with the latest skills in software engineering.

“It’s exciting times for us here at Sky Leeds as we launch Sky’s first returners programme in our Leeds Dock home,” says the scheme’s co-founder Francesca Nicholson.

“The programme is designed to support anyone who has previously worked in tech but has taken a career break (for any reason) and is wanting to return to the world of technology.

“In the fast-moving technology world, career breaks or gaps in employment on a CV can be deemed negative, sometimes making a candidate less appealing to an employer compared to those still in the role. When this happens, it can be a little difficult to find your way back into what you love doing best, and that’s where we come in.”

To fit the bill, you should have previous experience in a software engineering role or tech environment and experience of testing web-based applications. Excellent problem-solving abilities – being able to learn and apply new technical knowledge quickly – are vital, as are top-notch communication, analytical and team-working skills.

You should also have a solid understanding of sound software life-cycle methodologies and/or agile delivery, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and progressive environment.

Does this sound like you? Do you also have a passion for software excellence, delivering code of the highest quality, and a willingness to learn new languages and practices?

The great news is that you will be paid from the start and Sky will make sure you have all the training and mentoring needed to get you back up and running with the most up-to-date skills.

You’ll attend a four-week boot camp on campus to refresh your skills and give you the technical skills you need to be an automated tester at Sky – you’ll work alongside other technical returners who are also part of the programme.

Then, after the training period, you will move into a delivery team at Sky Leeds Dock as an automation tester and will work on projects to deliver unified solutions.

To find out more about the great perks of working for Sky, apply today and Francesca or her Returner Programme co-founder Jennifer Standish will be in touch directly.
