Soup giving TSC Foods a Glorious time

Food manufacturer TSC Foods has increased turnover by almost 30 per cent in the last two years on the back of surging sales of soup.

TSC, which is based in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, recorded revenue of £45m in the year to December 2011, up from £35m in 2009. Turnover in 2010 was £39m.

The growth came on the back of rising sales of TSC’s flagship Glorious! range of fresh soups and sauces, which are sold in Morrisons, Asda and Sainsbury’s supermarkets.

TSC has also spent £2m in the past two years on a new soup production plant in order to meet increased demand.

Peter Armitage, investment partner at KCP and director of TSC Foods, said: “Growth has been very impressive and that has come on the back of the popularity of the Glorious! range, which is sold through the major supermarkets, who we are delighted to be working with.

“However, all areas of the business are performing well. Restaurant and pub customers remain vital to TSC’s success, too, and these are key areas for the future. We are confident sales will soon top £50m.”

David Bondi, of TSC Foods, added: “At a time when many manufacturers were standing still or shrinking we took the decision to invest in the production side of the business.

“This strategy is now bearing fruit as strong demand for our fresh products boosts both our top and bottom line. KCP has proved a great partner for us in supporting this growth.”

TSC is backed by private equity house Key Capital Partners (KCP). TCS was founded in 1991 and specialises in chilled and frozen sauces, soups and dressings and ready meals.

It employs more than 300 staff.
