What was your first job?

Project worker for a social work department.

If you weren’t in your present post, what would you be doing?

A different path in life could have turned me into a computer programmer. I’m not sure you can get much further apart than people and computers.

What was your worst mistake?

I remember a horrible sinking feeling when I realised just how much algebra was involved in my economics degree.

What’s your ideal day away from the office?

Spending time with family out in the countryside.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?

Richard Branson. He has developed successful businesses in diverse sectors, but the key for me is his talent at finding the right people to manage them and the way he creates a brand which people feel so positive about.

What was your best subject at school?

Geography. I love travelling and visiting other countries.

What are your hobbies?

Eating out, watching football and rugby, and exercising

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

I’d have a world cruise with all of my family, give them enough to live on, keep some for myself and then give the rest to RNLI and Help For Heroes.

What’s your top time-saving tip?

Write lists, plan your work, but don’t delay too long.

What’s your favourite time of day?

Evening – relaxing at home after a busy day.

What’s the best thing about Yorkshire?

Friendly people. I met my wife in Yorkshire.

What would you like to be your epitaph?

A true friend, honest, loyal and trustworthy.
