I would be at home writing novels but like most people who have that ambition, finishing one is a bit of a stumbling block.

What was your worst mistake?

A lifetime of procrastina- tion.

Describe your ideal day away from the office.

Visiting somewhere new...I love being a tourist.

Name the one person you would most like to have dinner with.

The Queen. It is amazing what she has achieved over the years and she really is a national treasure. The Jubilee was great as it felt like the entire nation recognised her role and celebrated the way in which she has been a figurehead through so much of the last century.

What was your best subject at school?

Politics – I am always interested in a good debate.

What would you do if you won the lottery?

Don’t be a slave to checking your emails.

What is your favourite time of the day and why?

Friday nights are always the best as I know I have a full weekend to look forward to.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

“Veni, vidi, vixi” – I came, I saw, I lived.
