On the Spot with Claire Young

What was your first job?

My first job was waitressing in a Beefeater Restaurant, Wakefield. I had to work the whole summer to pay for my first holiday abroad with my girlfriends. It taught me the value of money very quickly.

If you were not in your present job, what would you like to do?

I love having my own business and working with young people. There is nothing else I would rather do.

What was your worst mistake?

I initially chose to study medicine at university which I didn't enjoy. However, it made me realise that it is important to be engaged and passionate about what you are doing.

What would be your ideal day away from the office?

I love spending time with horses or visiting a spa – I love going to Eastthorpe Spa in Mirfield.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?

Oprah Winfrey is my role model and I think she would have many interesting stories to share.

What are your hobbies?

I love horse riding. Sadly, my ex-racehorse Oscar had to be put down due to injury so I'm on the hunt for another horse.

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

I'd put money into my social enterprise scheme Girls Out Loud (www.girlsoutloud.org.uk), and launch our national mentor scheme Big Sister which provide teens with support and guidance. Then I'd buy a fleet of horses.

What is your favourite time of day and why?

I like 6.30am when it's quiet, I'm refreshed and my brain works quickly.

What is the best thing about being in business in Yorkshire?

The people. I have worked all over the UK and think people in Yorkshire are friendly, open and have a can-do attitude.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

The world is a quieter place without her.
