What was your first job?

That was on a youth training scheme for Grandways, the old Yorkshire supermarket chain.

I’d almost certainly be a senior planning manager with Aunt Bessies in Hull.

What was your worst mistake?

From being a child I wanted to have a job where I used my artistic skills. After a long deliberation I decided to train to become an architect. However, the careers teachers talked me into following a new business course that was available. To this day, although the business course was beneficial, I still believe it was the bad mistake to not follow what I’d really wanted to do.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?

I would say Winston Churchill, as an inspirational speaker and leader.

What was your best subject at school?

At either ends of the curriculum: art and design and physical education.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy running and being able to chill out in the garden.

What would you do if you won the Lottery?

I would invest further into Precision Drilling and, if I had the time, travel around the world.

What’s your favourite item of clothing?

My trainers – they are very comfortable and feel like slippers when I am running.

What’s your favourite time of day?

Lunch. I like my food, and I find it’s a relaxing time.

What’s the best thing about Yorkshire?

The people, who are very friendly; and the fact that there is so much to do and see right across the county.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

The best dad and husband in the world, he aimed to be successful in everything he turned his hand to.
