On The Spot with James Hinchliffe

James Hinchliffe is the managing director of VOICE Marketing in Sheffield.

What was your first job?

Working in a car body shop, mainly making tea for all the lads.

If you weren’t in your current position, what would you be doing?

I trained in graphic design so probably something related to that.

What was your worst mistake?

I have plenty but they are much worse if they are made more than once. It’s more frustrating when you miss opportunities. I once declined an offer to invest in a start-up business, which is now extremely successful.

What’s your ideal day away from the office?

Spending time with my family.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?

I recently read Chris Evans’ latest book, and I bet he’d be great fun at a dinner party.

What was your best subject at school?

I suppose it was art and that’s why I studied graphic design.

What are your hobbies?

Playing football more than watching it (Sheffield football, blue or red isn’t the best at the moment) and following Formula 1. Truthfully, I haven’t time for hobbies with two young children after a day or week at work.

What would you do if you won the Lottery?

Obviously, you’d look after your family and friends but it would be great to do some really positive things within the local area. I’ve seen interviews with the couple from Sheffield who won a large sum and they seem to be among the few who have really enjoyed the money as they’ve used much of it to support worthy causes.

What’s your favourite time of day?

I don’t particularly have one. It’s more about what I’m doing at that time.

What’s the best thing about Yorkshire?

All the puddings.

What would be your epitaph?

So much for him giving all that lottery win away to charity.
