John Habergham is a director of Myton Law, the specialist shipping, transit, international trade and insurance law firm in Hull.

What was your first job?

Pulling pints at Carlinghow Working Mens Club, Batley. Bitter was 25p a pint and mild 23p, which may give you an idea of how long ago that was.

What was your worst mistake?

In a previous job, on walking out of the director's office into the main atrium containing the workforce, I mistook the exit and walked straight into a cleaners' cupboard.

Name one person you would most like to have dinner with?

It would have been the writer George MacDonald Fraser, author of amongst other things the Flashman novels – such an interesting man who spoke so much sense.

What was your best subject at school?

What are your hobbies?

Not so much sport nowadays at my age, although desperately trying to hold back the years at the gym.

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

Ensure my wife can finish work and my daughters are looked after. If it was Euromillions, I would found The Hull Free Grammar School – an old fashioned grammar school, free for all and free from political interference.

What is your top-time saving tip?

Delegate.

What is your favourite time of the day?

The evening meal with the family.

What is your favourite garment?

Boden pull-ons.

What is the best thing about being in Yorkshire?

The people – the right mix of pride and stubbornness.

What would your epitaph be?

When my father died, someone said, "You know, I can't think of anyone who had a bad word to say about him." That is something to aspire to.
