What was your first job?

Serving in a Yorkshire wine bar.

If you were not in your present job, what would you like to do?

Own a Yorkshire wine bar.

What was your worst mistake?

Putting petrol in a diesel car... and then happily driving 240 miles up the M1 back to Yorkshire. It was a very expensive mistake.

What would be your ideal day away from the office?

Cycling along the North York Moors and coast on a sunny day.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?

David Hockney because he's not only a brilliant artist and photographer but has remained loyal to his roots here in Yorkshire.

What was your best subject at school?

All of them except maths.

What are your hobbies?

Cycling, growing vegetables, and opera.

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

I'd check what had happened as I've never entered it.

What is your top time-saving tip?

Try to avoid being email-led where you open each email immediately it pops into your inbox.

What is your favourite time of day and why?

Breakfast on Sunday with the newspapers; it's the perfect way to relax after a busy week.

What is your favourite garment and why?

A cashmere jumper; because it's ideal to cosset myself against the Yorkshire weather.

What political, legal, economic or sporting event would you most like to see happen in your lifetime and why?

I would like to see a proper statutory basis for the safeguarding of vulnerable adults.

What is the best thing about being in business in Yorkshire?

Working for one of my profession's leading companies which sustains its links with local communities.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

That I acted with integrity.
