An actor. Whenever I go to see any play, whatever the genre, I get really in to it, and think "I could have done that". I enjoyed drama at school but was always too shy to appear in the plays.

What was your worst mistake?

Less of a mistake and more of a "wish I'd done". I left school at 16, but have always regretted not staying on and then going to university.

What's your ideal day away from the office?

Out walking with my wife and children. We live in Derbyshire so there are great walks all around.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?

Ben Elton. I think dinner should be fun as well as serious, and I love his humour.

What was your best subject at school?

It was probably English because it was the easiest thing to do.

What are your hobbies?

My family, golf, watching Sheffield United, and holidays.

What would you do if you won the Lottery?

I would retire for definite. There are lots of things I would like to do if I had all that free time, like climbing mountains, becoming a proficient skier, following the F1 series and golf tournaments around the world, and lots of holidays.

What's your favourite item of clothing?

I bought a North Face jacket which cost 100 and which has become a favourite because it's so versatile, and whenever I wear it, my daughters refer to it as the 100 coat.

What's your favourite time of day?

Morning, when I have woken up, collected myself, know exactly what I have to do in the day ahead.

What's the best thing about Yorkshire?

Sheffield. It's a fantastic city with fantastic people.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

He tried to do his best at whatever he did.
