On the Spot with Richard Dunn

What was your first job?

Village postman. This necessitated a long, arduous (until you got used to it) but scenic ride on a fairly antiquated Post Office bike. This was fantastic when the sun was shining but could be miserable in the rain.

If you weren't in your current position what would you be doing?

In light of the state of the economy, probably pottering around at home. Otherwise, at school I always fancied being a livestock auctioneer.

What was your worst mistake?

Accidentally dropping my cricket bat into the River Esk and believing I could retrieve it while staying dry. Our village cricket pitch was accessed via a narrow footbridge over the river and in a loss of concentration I dropped my bat. Let's just say I underestimated the depth of the water. On the bright side, it gave everyone a laugh and helped break the ice with a girl who is now my wife.

What's your ideal day away from the office?

Probably turning out for Rosedale FC while supported by my long-suffering family. However, since I have just retired (again) I suppose a walk with friends and family on the beach at Runswick Bay followed by a leisurely pub lunch.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?

Elvis. Why not?

What was your best subject at school?

My grades would tell you Geography though I enjoyed English and Biology and was more than okay at Home Economics.

What are your hobbies?

I like most sports and enjoy playing the odd game of football and cricket.

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

Throw a party. After investing the lion's share and treating my mum to a new car, I would take a long globe-trotting holiday. Whether I'd stop working would depend on the size of the jackpot.

What's your top time saving tip?

Be organised and if you can't be, get a good PA to be organised on your behalf.

What's your favourite item of clothing?

What's your favourite time of day?

What's the best thing about Yorkshire?

The people, scenery and beer.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

Good things come in small parcels.
