On the Spot with Richard Hildrick

What was your first job?

My first full-time job was trainee quantity surveyor with Fairclough Building in Garforth, where I worked on Selby Police headquarters and the West Yorkshire Playhouse projects, among others.

If you weren't in your present position, what would you be doing?

I would be managing the England football team. I even speak the language.

What was your worst mistake?

Not setting up my own consultancy sooner. I should have followed my instincts as the job satisfaction when I get a big result for a client is immense.

Describe your ideal day away from the office?

Riding my trials motorbike with my boys.

Name the one person you would most like to have dinner with?

What was your best subject at school?

It had to be maths, which has helped a lot throughout my career.

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

I have a list of holiday destinations and sporting events to steadily work my way through .

What's your top time-saving tip?

Be organised and don't allow others to make you disorganised.

What is your favourite time of day and why?

First thing in the morning. This is the time of day when

my thoughts are at their clearest and productivity at an optimum.

What is your favourite item of clothing?

I have one particular fleece that is never far away.

What is the best thing about Yorkshire?

The abundant supply of scenic countryside, especially the North Yorkshire Moors

What would you like your epitaph to be?

Whatever my kids think they should say about me.
