On the Spot with Richard Jones

What was your first job?

I worked at Jacob's Well in Honley as a cellar boy. A very glamorous job which involved changing the barrels of beer and moving crates of bottles to and from the cellar.

If you weren't in your current position, what would you be doing?

Building houses. I would enjoy the whole process of building a house from scratch.

What was your worst mistake?

I don't believe in mistakes. I think you can learn something from every situation.

What's your ideal day away from the office?

Walking in the countryside or by the coast, there are some fantastic walks both in Yorkshire and further afield which, together with the sunshine, would make for the perfect day out.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?

Valentino Rossi – he's a legend. As someone with a keen interest in bikes, it would be fascinating to talk to one of the greatest and most successful racers of all time.

What was your best subject at school?

Biology – mainly because of the experiments.

What are your hobbies?

Cars, bikes, dogs and football.

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

It would be great to be able to go through the process of designing and building houses as I've always found architecture interesting and it's always good to invest in property.

What's your top time-saving tip?

Always plan ahead, that way, you are less likely to get caught out and can factor in any problems. It also helps to be organised.

What's your favourite item of clothing?

Bed socks – they're comfy and they go together with my favourite time of the day.

What's your favourite time of day?

Bedtime – it's relaxing knowing that you've got nothing to do for the next eight hours but sleep.

What's the best thing about Yorkshire?

The friendly people and the countryside.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

Little and often.
