What was your first job?

Working in a camera shop on Saturdays.

If you weren’t in your present position, what would you be doing?

Working with animals somewhere.

What’s the worst mistake you’ve ever made?

Not making the most of my school days.

What’s your ideal day away from the office?

Spending time with my wife and friends, enjoying real ale and English countryside.

Business studies, economics.

What are your hobbies?

Street photography.

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

Once I had achieved my growth ambitions for Smoothwall, I would primarily be interested in doing something with animals.

Believe in your convictions and get stuff done rather than just talking about it.

What’s your favourite time of day?

First thing on a summer’s day.

What’s your favourite item of clothing?

I believe that in business you should have respect for yourself by wearing a decent suit to work.

What’s the best thing about being in Yorkshire?

It is one of the most diverse regions in the UK, with a good balance of skills and smart people, allied with great geography and reasonable communications.

What would your epitaph be?

I don’t like the idea of just being a businessman who creates wealth for himself and his shareholders. I would rather be remembered for helping animals.
