What was your first job?

Working on our family farm. Although it was very hard work and long days, you always gained a great sense of satisfaction upon completion.

If you weren't in your present job, what would you like to do?

My wife and I would love to leave the UK and work with the animals of Southern Africa. I have always aspired to work in conservation, with rhinos, hippos and wild dogs.

What was your worst mistake?

Not leaving my previous job sooner – I stuck it out, even though I was unhappy.

What would your ideal day be away from the office?

Playing golf at a historic links golf course in Scotland with friends in the morning, followed by a walk in the afternoon and dinner with my wife.

Name one person you would most like to have dinner with and why?

It might be clichd, but Nelson Mandela, as he fought for what he believed in and was willing to sacrifice his own lifetime for his dream.

What was your best subject at school?

Economics and geography.

What are your hobbies?

Golf, travel and food – I try to combine all three whenever possible.

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

I have never played the lottery, but if I happened to buy a ticket and won, I would love to travel around more of Africa with my wife. I would continue to work, though, as I have been brought up that way.

What is your top time-saving tip?

At the end of each day, do your to do list for the next day and prioritise from 1 to x. Start at 1 and do not move on to 2 until you have completed your first task. You will get your most important work done first and work much more efficiently.

What is your favourite time of the day and why?

Early evening; it is time to relax with my wife and friends.

What is the best thing about Yorkshire?

Being a Yorkshireman.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

A kind and courteous man with a big personality, who worked hard at everything he did to be the best he could be.
