I love working with management teams to develop and grow companies, so I think I’d still be in business. I wouldn’t mind being a sports journalist, either.

What was your worst mistake?

Definitely giving up semi-professional football too early. I’ve spent a fortune on a new wardrobe to accommodate a growing waistline.

What would your ideal day away from the office be?

Any day when I can spend time with my family and friends. The location isn’t that important.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why.

Sir Alex Ferguson. I’d ask him how he’s been able to stay at the top of his profession for so long.

What was your best subject at school?

Embarrassingly, it was maths.

What are your hobbies?

My three children, socialising and golf – in that order.

If I won the jackpot, I’d spend the money on whatever my wife told me to.

What’s your top time-saving tip?

Spend a small amount of time each day planning what you want to achieve.

What’s your favourite time of day and why?

Definitely the morning – the whole day is ahead of me.

What’s the best thing about Yorkshire?

The people. They’re straightforward, honest and have a great sense of humour.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

He didn’t always succeed. But he had fun trying.
