Spy company praise for retiring director

DATONG, the spy gadgets company, said that executive deputy chairman Brian Smith is to step down after 12 years at the company.

Mr Smith, who led the Leeds-based group through a period of substantial growth and development, will leave his role on May 31 but will remain with the group as a non-executive director.

Datong chairman Paul Lever said: "Brian has had an outstanding career with Datong, having joined as sales director in 1998, quickly progressing to chief executive in 1999, before becoming executive deputy chairman in 2009. He has been instrumental in making Datong a successful international business with a well-earned reputation in the market place."

He added that Datong is now has a sound base on which to move forward.

Mr Smith said: "Following my 12 years at Datong, including 10 as chief executive, I have decided to retire as an executive director, but am delighted to move into the role of non-executive director. The group has an exciting future ahead of it."

Mr Smith does not hold any other directorships.

Datong has a wholly owned subsidiary in the US with a sales and service office in Chantilly, Virginia.

Its products are sold internationally to more than 25 countries, using both the group's direct sales force and a network of independent overseas distributors. It listed on the AIM market in London in October 2005.
