Star line-up revealed for Variety Club’s business awards

Alastair Campbell, Louise Minchin, Andy Clarke and Barry Cryer complete the colourful line-up at the Variety Club’s Yorkshire Business Awards fundraising lunch, writes Bernard Ginns.

The cast promises something for everyone: intrigue from the world of politics in the form of Tony Blair’s former director of communications, consumer insight from the chief executive of supermarket giant Asda and timeless humour from the star of Radio 4’s much-loved show, I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue.

Ms Minchin, the BBC journalist, will present the prestigious annual lunch on December 9 at The Queens Hotel in Leeds.

Organisers hope for a sell-out this year, the 25th anniversary of the fundraising event.

The Yorkshire business community has raised £3m over the last quarter of a century for disadvantaged and needy children, helping to pay for 70 Sunshine coaches, 150 wheelchairs and 500 general appeals.

The Variety Club event, organised by veteran corporate lawyer Martin Shaw, also celebrates the best of the region’s businesses and will honour a board, a business leader and an SME for outstanding work over 2011.
