Starbucks faces employee wage demo

COFFEE chain Starbucks, under fire over its UK tax bills, will face a protest today over its employees’ pay.

The GMB union will stage a demonstration outside the US giant’s offices in London over complaints that it does not pay the so-called Living Wage, which is higher than the minimum wage.

The union accused Starbucks of “avoiding” paying the Living Wage, which has been set at £8.55 an hour in London and £7.45 outside the capital, compared with the national minimum wage of £6.19 for adults.
