Straight secures major contract

LEEDS-based Straight, the environmental products and services group, has secured a significant contract with May Gurney, the support services specialist.

The contract for a new waste, recycling and street cleansing service in Bristol is worth more than £900,000 and will start before Christmas.

The new contract will see May Gurney introduce a mixed plastic recycling scheme for which Straight will manufacture more than 200,000 kerbside recycling boxes. In addition, 68,000 specialist caddies will be supplied for food waste collection.

The new scheme is expected to save Bristol City Council around £2.5m per year. It will also help the council achieve its goal of sending no untreated waste to landfill within the next three years.

All of the containers will be made from recycled plastic at the Straight factory in Hull. Straight has also secured the Carbon Reduction Label on both of these product ranges.

Jonathan Straight, the chief executive of Straight, said: “We are delighted to be working with May Gurney again on yet another major implementation. Our working relationship has grown over the years and this contract further reinforces the high quality products and service that Straight plc provides.”
