Straight wins recycling contract

Recycling group Straight has won a contract with the London Waste and Recycling Board to provide over 1,000 Steelybin four-wheeled recycling containers as part of the board’s recycling programme.

The £25,000 contract is the largest single order to date for the Leeds-based company’s Steelybin containers.

As part of the deal Straight will deliver over 1,300 units to a number of London boroughs and delivery will start later this month.

The group will also provide more than 70,000 of its market-leading Kitchen Caddy product for the collection of food waste.

The major of London, Boris Johnson, has outlined improvements to recycling services for London flats and high rise properties as a key priority in the Draft Municipal Waste Management Strategy.

As a result, the London Waste and Recycling Board has created a £5m Flats Recycling Programme to help London boroughs overcome common barriers that affect recycling in flats and high rise properties.

Straight’s chief executive Jonathan Straight said: “The fact that Steelybin has been selected is testament to the high quality of this product which is fully compliant with the EN840 standard.

“Having our Kitchen Caddy used too demonstrates the diversity of our range.

“We are very pleased to be working alongside the London Waste and Recycling Board on the Flats Recycling Programme to address the problems associated with recycling in flats within the London boroughs.

“The programme is a significant step in encouraging all households to recycle, and we look forward to other councils across the UK following suit.”
