Strategic role to help regenerate estate

HUNDREDS of residents on a Yorkshire housing estate will soon enjoy an improved quality of life, thanks to work being carried out by a fast-growing building contractor.

Strategic Team Group, has started work on a 2.7m redevelopment in Keighley, West Yorkshire, on behalf of social housing landlord Incommunities.

Castleford-based Strategic Team Group will build 27 homes on the Woodhouse estate in Keighley.

The deal will see the firm take ownership of eight of the homes, which it will then sell through its associated company, 21C Properties, as part of an initiative to help fund the scheme.

The new homes form part of Incommunities' plans to regenerate the estate by building 130 properties.

The first phase of the redevelopment work, supported by the Homes and Communities Agency, is due for completion in August 2010.

Local schools have been invited to enter a garden design competition, with the two winning designs being included in the garden of the show home, along with a 500 cash prize from Strategic Team Group.

Charles Tweed, Strategic Team Group's business development director, said: "We are delighted to be working with Incommunities on another project to create new homes for the region.

"The new initiative, which will see us take ownership of some of the homes, marks a change in direction for the business and one we hope to use as a model to support registered social landlords for the future."

Ken Nicholson, the director of Incommunities' development and regeneration, said: "We are delighted to see construction underway on the first part of the redevelopment of the estate. This follows local consultations with residents into the plans.

"We are working closely with our partners, Strategic Team Group, to deliver a high quality development which will provide homes for rent for local people and also homes for outright sale.

"Demolition will take place shortly to clear the remaining empty properties on the central part of the estate and pave the way for the construction of more affordable homes."

Strategic Team Group, which also has a base in Glasgow, is one of Britain's fastest growing suppliers of building property services.

A re-investment deal with Barclays Ventures in 2008 worth more than 11m, released extra resources for organic growth and acquisitions. The group employs 220 staff and has a turnover of more than 34.5m.
