Strong start for ghd founder’s recruitment venture

MORGAN KING, the new recruitment venture launched by entrepreneur Martin Penny, one of the co-founders of the world-famous hair straightener brand ghd, is to open a second office just two months after the business was set up.

The Leeds-based group is opening up a new office in Teesside and has appointed Jo Bailey as senior consultant to head up the new site and Emma Kennett as office manager.

Morgan King co-founder Howard Slinger said: “We’ve met with a really positive response and, as a result, we’re opening our second office in Teesside earlier than planned.”

Morgan King is aimed at companies looking for “white collar” and “grey collar” workers – people who are between blue and white collar positions. The firm aims to differentiate itself by getting to know the business rather than relying on technology to sift through candidates.

Mr Penny has made what the firm described as a “significant six figure investment” in the business, which is being run by Mr Slinger, a recruitment specialist with over 25 years’ experience in the recruitment industry.

He said: “With her solid track record in the technical recruitment sector, we are confident that Jo will play a key role in helping us to drive forward the business in the North East while Emma will ensure that the Leeds office runs smoothly.

“The idea of a recruitment business that focuses on the traditional values of really getting to know the people and businesses involved to make sure they are the right match, seems to be resonating with many employers.

“The fact that businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to find able people for technical positions and for ‘grey collar’ roles, means that Morgan King has got off to a great start.”
