Surgical Innovations eyes NHS business

KEYHOLE surgery specialist Surgical Innovations said it has begun to gain interest from the NHS as the public body continues to face pressures to make savings.

Doug Liversidge, chairman of the group, will say at its annual general meeting today that to support this NHS activity the company recently announced a five-year contract extension with its distributor, Elemental Healthcare, worth £5m.

He said in the statement, released ahead of the meeting: “Encouragingly we are beginning to gain interest in our cost effective devices from the NHS as they continue to face pressures to produce annual savings of £20bn.”

He added: “We remain confident about the future growth prospects of the business and look forward to reporting on the continuing success of the Group over the remainder of the year.”

More than 120 people are employed at the group’s facility in Leeds.

Mr Liversidge also said that the group remains committed to expanding within the US market.

Surgical Innovations has just won an eight year exclusive contract with US-based CareFusion for its PretzelFlex device, which shifts the liver out of the way during surgery.
