There’s always the sun

THREE major Yorkshire companies yesterday unveiled one of the largest city centre solar panel schemes in Britain.

Town Centre Securities, Rex Procter & Partners and GMI Renewable Energy Group have combined to install a solar photovoltaic system on the roof of the Clarence Dock car park in Leeds, which is near the Royal Armouries.

The system can supply around 15 per cent of the car park’s electricity. It will save 55,000 kg in CO2 emissions a year.

Ben Ziff, pictured, the managing director of Town Centre Car Parks (TCCP) said: “The addition of the solar system on our car park links in perfectly with our approach to find new ways of improving our business, within a sustainable environment.”

Jarrod Best, the managing director of Leeds-based GMI Construction, added: “This is a fantastic example of how solar PV systems can bring benefits to organisations on many fronts.”
