Thorntons gives statement on closure of its Harrogate branch

Thorntons have issued a statement to customers about the closure of their Harrogate branch on May 12.

Harrogate's Thorntons branch will close on May 12.

Readers have been taking to social media to share their dismay at the news since it was announced, and now Thorntons have shared a statement to explain why they have taken the decision.

A Thorntons spokesperson said: "Like any retailer, we are continuously reviewing our store estate to ensure we are in the locations that meet our customer needs. As a result of such a review, the decision was taken to close our store in Harrogate on 12th May 2018.

"Currently, five staff members are employed at the store and we are looking to find them other employment opportunities where possible. Thorntons has been delighted to serve our many local customers over the years and we would encourage them to shop for their favourite Thorntons products at our two York stores, or online at the Thorntons website in the future."
