Three new businesses sign up at science park and aim for Springboard to success

Three new businesses have joined York Science Park’s start-up space, Springboard, providing the park with a strong start to 2015.

Superformation, a company registration agent, a software firm specialising in the education sector, Tivoli IT, and a business providing innovative IT solutions and support for SMEs, Atom Stream, have all joined Springboard, which is designed to provide a stimulating and flexible environment for early stage businesses whilst they become established.

Tracey Smith, managing director at York Science Park, said: “We have had a very strong start to 2015 with a continuous flow of enquiries for our start-up space, Springboard.

“There is a real sense of optimism and opportunity around at the moment and it’s great to see these three entrepreneurial businesses start life at York Science Park where I am sure they will make the most of the support and networks we offer.”

John Benson, founder of Atom Stream, said: “We chose to base ourselves at Springboard as it allowed us to start up a new business with minimal capital investment. This has meant we can invest in taking on more staff, which we otherwise would not have been able to do until the business was larger.

“The team at York Science Park have been great and their speed at dealing with our application has meant we have been able to start trading much sooner than we would have been able to otherwise.”

Strategically located in the Ron Cooke Hub on the University of York’s Heslington East campus development, Springboard enables entrepreneurs and businesses to easily access business people, academic departments and researchers, leading to innovative solutions and business opportunities.

Situated in close proximity to the Computer Science Department, Department of Theatre, Film & TV, plus the Law and Management Schools, Springboard was established in 2010.

Residents also benefit from direct access to the University of York’s Research Innovation Office, offering further support in helping new ventures to establish and grow.

Accommodation is free for the first three months and then is on a sliding scale depending on the size of office taken.
