Time to be rid of prejudices against parts of region

What are the prospects for the property sector in Yorkshire and Humber?

The market remains very tough and will continue to see major challenges for the foreseeable future. However, major cities such as Leeds and Sheffield can hope to be the first to see some good improvement once the economy revives as they will be the focus for major investment.

What is the best project you have been involved in?

The acquisitions programme for supermarket chain Sainsbury’s. To help one of the country’s top retailers to positively drive forward its food store acquisition programme across the north of England is really exciting and it is a privilege to be involved.  We have done some great schemes over the past few years, notably the new store in Whitby and the redevelopment at Heaton Park in Manchester.

What is your favourite building in the region and why?

York Minster. This building was carved from blocks of stone and put together by people with no cranes or power tools. It fills me with awe.

If you could change one thing to improve the property industry in this region, what would it be?

The prejudices of those people outside of the region over some of the less glamorous locations in Yorkshire.

Whom do you most admire in the property industry?

Anyone who keeps their sense of perspective and remembers that however much money may be involved in a project or scheme, it affects people at the end of the day.
