TNT aims to deliver through growth

A major rival to Royal Mail in the UK postal market has announced plans to expand its workforce by a fifth and bolster its regional presence.

TNT Post, which currently handles 280 million items a month, is also planning to invest 3m in sorting and processing technology.

It expects to have more than 1,000 employees in the UK following the recruitment drive, including new client managers and operational staff.

The expansion plan will create 33 new jobs in Leeds.

The business has a network of five regional offices and will extend this to cover a new hub in Northern Ireland in the autumn.

The Dutch-owned company has won business from high-profile customers including Centrica and BT since entering the UK market six years ago.

Nick Wells, chief executive of TNT Post in the UK, said the company is committed to innovation, quality of service and intelligent account management.

Mr Wells added: "We are dedicated to continued growth and strength of service offering, which can only be realised by a fully liberated postal market; a position we hope to see come true through changes to the unfair VAT rules which will ensure a level playing field with Royal Mail."
