Trade show promises ‘no-nonsense’ take on food and drinks sector

THE REGION’s food and drink manufacturers are set to come together for a two-day trade show focused on the strengths and challenges of the sector.

Manufactured Yorkshire will take place in Huddersfield on June 9 and 10 2015. It has been relaunched in a new format after launching in 2013, with networking and showcasing alongside debate on the industry.

Chrissie Slater, director at trade exhibition organiser Mooncas, said Manufactured Yorkshire is a “no-nonsense” trade show that reflects the strength of industry in the region.

She said: “Yorkshire manufacturers have got a lot to shout about. Leeds City Region holds the largest manufacturing employment base in the UK, providing 47,000 jobs in engineering alone.

“Yorkshire generates 12.5 per cent of the UK’s food and drink turnover and the sector is growing at a rapid rate. Strengthening the local supply chain is a critical factor to success; equally as important is export.”

Day one will focus on engineering, while day two will showcase Yorkshire’s finest and “under the radar” businesses. Organisers are inviting delegates from manufacturing businesses, food retailers and farm shops, hotels and restaurants and commercial businesses that service the food sector. Passes are £20 plus VAT.

Partners to date include Santander, manufacturing organisation EEF and Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP). Melanie Brooke, vice principal at Kirklees College, said the college will welcome an apprentice onto its engineering programme as part of its involvement in the show.

She said: “This event marks our commitment to working closely with employers.”
