Train operator’s profits surge as
passenger numbers and fares up

Passenger watchdog Passenger Focus recently quizzed passengers on First TransPennine Express and Northern Rail about the future of the services.

It found passengers “value the mix of local and longer-distance services provided by the two operators”.

Passengers demanded “better quality of trains on the Northern franchise” –with concerns around age, functionality and cleanliness.

They also called for more carriages to reduce overcrowding, especially at peak times, and better luggage space.
