Travel update: Delays on M1 after rush-hour crashes

one lane of the M1 is closed south-bound in South Yorkshire this morning after an accident.

The accident is causing delays of around 30 minutes for traffic between junction 36 and 34, according to the Highways Agency.

Around 8.20am, it posted a message saying: “#SouthYorkshire 1 lane is closed on #M1 S/B J35-J34 while @SYPtweet deal with a collison. Delays on approach. We’ll keep you updated.”

Earlier, two lanes were shut due to a multivehicle collision at around 6.30am, though the scene was cleared and the lanes re-opened.

In north Derbyshire, two lanes of the M1 are closed between junctions 29 and 29A after a collision between two heavy goods vehicles. Motorists are advised to approach with caution.

The accident is causing delays of 30 minutes, but normal conditions are expected to return by 9am.

Rail passengers travelling between Leeds and Carlisle are still experiencing delays of up to 30 minutes due to a landslide affecting services.

Northern Rail says the delays are expected to continue until start of service on Monday. Trains travelling between Carlisle and Leeds will still call on the opposite platforms at Armathwaite, Lazonby and Langwathby.
