Trying to make sure that the beat goes on

A YORKSHIRE musician has launched a business to prevent drums from de-tuning.

Nick Boxall, 37, from Barnsley, who plays with alternative rock band Skinboat, wants to find a backer for the Drumtopia product or to sell it once the prototype has been developed.

He said: “I’ve been drumming since I was 15 and have personal experience of one of the problems drummers face – that drums keep going out of tune.

“Re-tuning costs time during recording sessions and also interrupts the performance flow during live gigs.”

Drumtopia was developed with the help of start-up support from Barnsley Business Mine, funded by the Enterprising Barnsley programme. It works by attaching a plastic device to the drum, but Mr Boxall said he cannot provide more details at this stage in its production.
