University looks to China for
trade expert

LEEDS University has appointed a professor from a Chinese university to help it carry out research which will look at how UK businesses can maximise their returns in international trade.

The three-year appointment of Professor Xiaobo Wu as visiting chair in global entrepreneurship and innovation at Leeds was made with the backing of specialist distributor Smiths News, which has provided funding for the research.

Professor Wu, who joins Leeds from the School of Management at Zhejiang University, has extensive research expertise in global manufacturing, competitive strategy and the management of technical innovations in modern business.

Richard Thorpe, pro-dean for research and innovation at Leeds University Business School, said: “A clearer understanding of how to do business with China is critical to economic recovery, and Professor Wu can make a major contribution to this work.
