Upbeat Surgical Innovations maintaining its cutting edge

KEYHOLE surgery specialist Surgical Innovations told shareholders at its AGM yesterday that the group has made "excellent progress" in the first five months of the year and trading is in line with expectations.

Last week the Leeds-based firm, which designs and makes surgical devices, announced the delivery of its largest industrial order to date.

Yesterday chairman Doug Liversidge said: "This is a significant achievement and highlights the adaptability of our technology to industries outside surgery."

The 620,000 order, originally due for completion in December 2009, was delayed because of third party technical difficulties.

The group recently delivered a prototype for a second commercial product.

Surgical has appointed a new distributor in Ireland and signed a three-year 1m contract extension with its Italian distributor.

"We anticipate further contract extensions to be signed with other distribution partners during the remainder of the year," said Mr Liversidge.

"We are extremely confident for the year ahead and look forward to providing a further update at the interim results in September," he added.

Surgical specialises in the design and manufacture of innovative devices for use in minimally invasive surgery and industrial markets.

The group employs over 100 people at its 32,000 square foot facility in Leeds.
