Bishop Burton College near Beverley is preparing to welcome more visitors than ever before to its annual springtime spectacle on Mother’s Day.

Jeanette Dawson, the College’s chief executive and principal, said: “I’m always so pleased to be able to welcome the wider general public to the College for our annual Lambing Sunday event.

“It gives me a great amount of pride to be able to open up our campus on Mother’s Day, so we can showcase our exceptional facilities and dedicated students and staff.

“It also marks the start of spring and is always a wonderful day out. I’m sure this year will be just the same and we are expecting more people than ever before.”

Along with being given the chance to hold and pet a newborn lamb, visitors can take part in a range of family-friendly activities, including animal feeding experiences, pony petting and the chance to ‘hug a bug’ and ‘snuggle a snake’.

Traditional roast dinners and pre-ordered picnic baskets will also be available.

The event runs this Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Entrance is £7 for adults, £5 for under-16s and £20 for a family of four. Under threes go free. There is a £5 charge to park on the campus but free buses and park and ride are available.

The College’s showpiece comes after a similar event was staged at Askham Bryan College in York at the weekend, while a Lambing Live spectacle is due to be held at Cannon Hall Farm in Cawthorne near Barnsley on April 7 when visitors can see lambs being born right through until midnight.

The event at the South Yorkshire attraction will also feature flood-lit sheep racing, ferret racing, meerkat talks and Shire horse demonstrations. For more information, visit cannonhallfarm.co.uk
