Voice for business in the region steps down as MD of specialist glazing firm

ONE of Yorkshire’s best-known businesswomen has stepped down as managing director of the specialist glazing firm she founded.

Margaret Wood, who set up the Wakefield-based window company ICW (UK), has banged the drum for Yorkshire business on a national scale.

ICW (UK), which is based in Horbury, Wakefield, has produced industrial-strength glazing products for clients ranging from Kew Gardens to Formula One.

Mrs Wood set up the company in 1993 as a tribute to her engineer husband, Tony, who died from cancer in 1986, aged 47. He owned his own business making industrial panels.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Mick Broadhead, will take on the managing director’s role at ICW (UK) from Mrs Wood, who is the majority shareholder.

A spokesman described it as a “move sideways” for Mrs Wood, who will be the company’s chairman.

Mr Broadhead has been with ICW (UK) since the business started, when he joined as shop floor manager with responsibility for operations.

A career engineer, he has served as operations director, working on the development of new products for the export market.

It was also revealed yesterday that Peter Haythorne has been appointed as ICW (UK’s) company secretary.

Mrs Wood said yesterday: “ICW is committed to further growth in new and expanding markets such as research, clean room and food production while maintaining innovation in our core industrial and corporate markets.

“Both Mick and Peter have been with us some years, and understand what our customers need, and how we can best tailor that to suit their needs while developing new products for more clients in fresh markets.

“Their appointments will enable ICW (UK) to consolidate existing markets and open up new ones.”

From 2009 to 2012, Mrs Wood, was the regional chairman of the Institute of Directors, and lobbied politicians on behalf of Yorkshire’s business commu- nity.
