Walker Morris stays put for biggest refurb in five years

WALKER MORRIS said it has reaffirmed its commitment to Yorkshire by investing in a radical redesign of its office in Leeds.

The law firm said the refurbishment is the largest in the city for the last five years and includes major renovation works to the ground floor areas and conference suites at the Kings Court building.

Unlike some of its peers in the professional services sector, Walker Morris decided to stay put rather than pre-let space in a new development.

Squire Patton Boggs, a rival Big Six firm, has agreed to take new space in Wellington Place development and KPMG, the accountancy giant, is soon to move into the Sovereign Square scheme.

Tom Peel, a partner at Walker Morris, told The Yorkshire Post: “The decision to extend our leases rather than move premises was taken some time ago and was made having regard to a number of factors including our existing enviable central location.”

Harrogate-based creative design consultancy SoVibrant designed the new office layout, which was completed by fit-out specialists Bluu. Fox Lloyd Jones acted as project manager on the scheme.

Ian Gilbert, managing partner, said the refurbishment was part of a multi-million pound investment in offices and IT systems at Walker Morris.

He said the work reflects the firm’s desire “to provide an environment and support infrastructure which allow us to provide excellent client service and which is flexible enough to meet our needs today and in the long-term”.

Mr Gilbert added: “The investment illustrates our confidence in the future for both Walker Morris and for the region.”

Darren Newlove-Hill, group development director at Bluu, said: “Bluu are very proud to have worked side by side with Walker Morris and their professional team to deliver this magnificent space. The modern, flexible design reflects their position as a leading law firm.”
