WANdisco joins forces with data specialist to beef up market position

SOFTWARE supplier WANdisco yesterday revealed that it had secured a strategic partnership to help it grow.

WANdisco has joined forces with Cloudera, which specialises in providing analytical data management.

It is the second strategic Big Data channel partnership WANdisco has agreed since the launch of its first Big Data product in February.

David Richards, WANdisco’s executive chairman and chief executive, said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Cloudera today.”

In September, Sheffield-based WANdisco announced what it described as a “very significant” product partnership with Hortonworks, one of the world’s biggest suppliers of Enterprise Hadoop software. Hadoop is open source Big Data technology, which serves as the backbone for many of the world’s largest and most important databases and is used by companies such as Yahoo, Facebook, Netflix, Amazon and eBay.

Hadoop’s mantra is that “the system never goes down”.

Mr Richards added: “Enterprises are adopting Hadoop as a core element of their IT infrastructure and our go-to-market strategy is to build out our channel partnerships with leaders in Hadoop, such as Cloudera.”

Analysts from Panmure Gordon & Co said of yesterday’s deal: “Investors have keenly awaited this news as another proof point that WANdisco has a commanding market position in this nascent market. The deal also improves sales leverage and should propel its sales initiative forward. This suggests that WANdisco is not just a share for Christmas, but has a multi-year run.”
