WANdisco shells out for TortoiseSVN

SOFTWARE firm WANdisco has acquired community website TortoiseSVN.Net, allowing the business to target a “significantly expanded” online audience.

Sheffield-based WANdisco said that as part of the arrangement, Stefan Küng, the lead developer for TortoiseSVN, will join the company “to support and enhance the software, ensuring its viability into the future”.

WANdisco chairman and CEO, David Richards, said: “TortoiseSVN is one of the most popular client applications for software developers.

“WANdisco has been a major contributor to the TortoiseSVN project since 2010 and with Stefan Küng’s expertise, we can ensure this popular open source project continues to thrive with quality support and new features users are looking for.”

WANdisco said that TortoiseSVN has millions of users, adding that it acquired the site for “a nominal fee”. The firm said in an update to the stock exchange that TortoiseSVN.net attracts over 500,000 unique visitors each month and supports over five million downloads each year.
