Watch this space: Business convention could crop up in South Yorkshire

HOPES have been raised that the Yorkshire International Business Convention could be about to stage an event in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, later this year, with big name speakers.

In an article in a commemorative edition of the Yorkshire International Business convention magazine, organiser Mike Firth confirmed that the YIBC event which is due to be held in The Spa in Bridlington on Friday, June 7 already had “a fantastic line up taking shape”.

According to the magazine, the Bridlington speakers will include Sir Terry Leahy, the former chief executive of Tesco, Professor Brian Cox, the physicist, and David Weir, who won four gold medals in the London 2012 Paralympic games.

The YIBC had also staged a Leeds event in recent years – last summer it attracted the Dalai Lama as the keynote speaker.

However, it was announced last year that there were no plans for further YIBC events in Leeds. The event had suffered from a dwindling number of high profile speakers, and declining audience numbers due to the recession.

The commemorative magazine confirmed that there was a possibility of holding an event in Rotherham, which would be similar to the YIBC in Bridlington. Mr Firth said more details were expected to be announced soon.
