New trends such as high quality wood veneers in cabinets, tablet-controlled lighting and state-of-the-art integrated audio visual systems are driving sales as homeowners opt for a bespoke service.

Local designer Richard Grafton said: “We’ve seen demand for wet rooms grow by probably 30 per cent over the last year, but more than that, clients are demanding unusual materials such as bleached cherry panelling and gum wood veneers.

People want top quality craftsmanship and tailored items in order to create a beautiful and truly unique home. They are demanding artisan skills to create aspirational and collectible pieces, whether it’s veneered cabinetry for a stylish dressing room or for a media cabinet to discretely house a TV.”

Another new trend matches advances in technology with lighting becoming intrinsic to the design project, which is often internet controlled and can incorporate security features such as CCTV.

“We’ve also seen an increase in projects for cinema rooms and gyms which must complement the overall interior design scheme rather than simply being functional,” said Mr Grafton.

“Our aim is to be the ‘London in the North’ providing a seamless range of services. Profits rose 100 per cent last year and we expect to see further growth in the year ahead.”
