Wholesaler expands into Lancashire

Produce and flower wholesaler Gilbert Thompson has expanded into Lancashire, with the acquisition of Sharrocks Fresh Produce.

Gilbert Thompson is a fourth generation, family-run business founded in 1905. It supplies fruit, vegetables, flowers and plants to customers in Yorkshire and the North East from its headquarters in Leeds and a depot in Sheffield.

Customers include caterers, farm shops, independent greengrocers, florists, garden centres, secondary wholesalers, schools and hospitals.

The acquisition of Sharrocks, itself a 100-year-old, fourth-generation business, will enable Gilbert Thompson to supply customers throughout the whole of the north of England.

Gilbert Thompson director Daniel Thompson - who will become managing director of Sharrocks - said: “As a long-standing family business ourselves, we share the same values as the Sharrocks team and also the same commitment to delivering the highest quality produce and service.”
