Workwear contract is just the job

WORKWEAR designer and manufacturer Dencowear has almost doubled its turnover after completing a new £500,000 contract to supply workwear to an international utility company.

The Leeds-based firm now has a turnover of 1.2m after supplying the unnamed company with flame-retardant boiler suits and workwear.

Founded in the 1960s by Susan Sherman, Dencowear specialises in designing and manufacturing professional workwear for various industries including utilities, healthcare, medical and beauty.

The firm, which is now run by her son, Ian, also supplies uniforms to colleges, including Leeds City College and Joseph Priestley College,

The company, which employs 20 people, also exports to Europe and America.

Mr Sherman, managing director, said help from the Manufacturing Advisory Service enabled the firm to cope with its rapid expansion and invest in new IT systems, which has led to staff being able to access data more effectively.

He added: "We wanted to keep our family values of excellent customer service and value-for-money but recognised as an expanding company that things had to change.

"For example, a lot of information was being carried around in a few people's heads."

He added: "I am keen to carry on expanding the business but recognise the importance of developing steadily and consolidating our position."
