As Britain marks the start of National Apprenticeship Week, Group Rhodes is offering its apprentices and young engineers the chance to visit customers around the world and work on new installations and see machinery put through its paces.

Today, around nine per cent of Group Rhodes’ 245 staff are taking part in modern apprentices, a sign that the Wakefield-based firm is laying the foundations for a profitable future. Company spokesman Amraiz Khan said: “The company is proud to offer a series of career paths across several engineering disciplines, and has been rewarded with a very low labour turnover rate.”

Business Secretary Vince Cable said yesterday: “As we kick off National Apprenticeship Week, it’s good to see that employers are increasingly recognising the value apprentices can bring to their businesses. Apprentices are now a key and valued part of the workforce for most businesses large or small - and the huge increase which this Government has overseen is one of my proudest achievements.”
