WYG pays £3.2m for planning group

​Design and engineering consultancy WYG is to create one of the largest planning businesses in the UK following the acquisition of Alliance Planning for £3.2m in cash.

Leeds-based WYG said Alliance Planning is one of the UK’s fastest-growing independent planning consultancies and provides planning advice on every aspect of development. Its customers include York-based housebuilder Persimmon and Sheffield-based construction firm Henry Boot.

WYG said the acquisition will be immediately earnings enhancing.

WYG also announced a strong trading update yesterday. The order book, which stood at £86.8m in March, now stands at £95.5m.

The group said revenue will begin to accelerate in the second half. Operating profit at the half year is expected to be more than 10 per cent higher and it said operating profit for the full year will be modestly ahead of market estimates of £5.25m.
