WYG wins contracts in Turkey to continue on global growth path

DESIGN and engineering consultancy WYG has continued its global expansion by winning two contracts in Turkey to help improve employment opportunities in the country’s growing economy.

The Leeds-based group, formerly called White Young Green, said it was awarded the contracts to improve the quality of public employment services and increase women’s employment.

Under chief executive Paul Hamer, the group has been focusing on boosting its international revenues to counterbalance slumping domestic trade.

The projects were awarded by the Turkish government’s Central Finance and Contract Unit (CFCU), which oversees European Union-funded programmes in Turkey.

Both projects are co-financed by the EU and the government of Turkey and are based in the Turkish Employment Organisation (ISKUR).

The first project aims to help ISKUR, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, provincial employment training boards and social partners strengthen their administrative capacity and improve the quality and efficiency of public employment services.

The second project focuses on improving Turkey’s capacity to design, develop and implement policies to attract and retain more people, especially women, in work.

Reg Parr, WYG project director for both schemes, said: “The Public Employment Service in Turkey is a much newer organisation than most in Europe and although it has developed considerably in recent years it still needs assistance to cope with the rapidly-changing demand of the labour market.

“The second project aims to develop a local strategy for increasing the promotion of women’s employment and developing a model.” Both projects should be complete by summer 2013.
